Cooking gas storage facility, workshops razed

KUALA LUMPUR: Fire razed a cooking gas storage facility and caused several explosions heard by nearby residents in Kg Melayu Subang, Subang Jaya.

Some residents also claimed they saw a few objects, believed to be cooking gas tanks, strewn several feet into the air.

A trailer carrying gas tanks tipped over near the Rasah toll plaza of the North-South Expressway and the tumbling gas tanks damaged two cars, a Perodua Viva and a Perodua Kancil. For some though, it was a godsend as they carried the gas tanks home. It wasn’t all good news. The tanks were mostly empty.

The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 9.19pm and dispatched five fire engines to the location, with the first fire engine arriving at 9.40pm.

“By the time we arrived, the fire had already razed a large area, destroying two metal workshops as well as a house nearby,” said a department officer yesterday.

Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, said the officer.

Meanwhile, the nearby housing estate plunged into darkness for three hours after electricity supply was cut off.
